Spanish cheeses showcase their enormous gastronomic potential at prestigious San Diego fair
The campaign “Discover the European Cheestories with Cheeses from Spain”, promoted by the Interprofessional Dairy Organization with the support of the European Union, showcased a selection of exceptional Spanish cheeses during the Winter Fancy Faire, held from January 11–13, 2026 at the San Diego Convention Center.
At this prestigious gathering organized by the Specialty Food Association, thousands of industry professionals explored the diversity and quality of European cheeses from Spain through guided tastings led by cheese expert Erin T. Connolly. Visitors had the opportunity to sample a curated selection representing the richness of Spanish cheesemaking traditions, including PDO Arzúa-Ulloa, PDO Murcia al Vino, Queso Ibérico, PDO Manchego, PDO Majorero, PDO Mahón-Menorca, PDO Tetilla, IGP Valdeón, PDO Ibores, and PDO Idiazabal.
The Winter Fancy Faire is one of the most important trade shows for gourmet food and beverages in the United States, bringing together key decision-makers from retail, wholesale, and the hospitality sector. In its latest edition, the fair hosted 1,052 exhibitors from more than 36 countries, making it a major platform for international networking and product discovery.
According to InLac Managing Director Nuria María Arribas, participation in this event highlights the sector’s commitment to promoting European cheeses of Spanish origin—crafted from sheep’s, goat’s, or mixed milk—and demonstrating their quality, excellence, and distinctive character.
Over the three days of the fair, the initiative also served as a strategic opportunity to analyze North American market trends, present products, and connect with potential buyers, distributors, and specialized media.
This event forms part of the broader “Cheestories” promotional campaign (March 2023–February 2026), which aims to raise awareness in the United States about the benefits and unique attributes of European cheeses from Spain, including their high production standards, quality, flavor, traceability, diversity, versatility, safety, and commitment to animal welfare. The campaign has also been present at major industry events such as the Summer Fancy Food Show, the National Restaurant Association Show, and the Good Food Mercantile, strengthening the international presence of Spanish cheeses in the U.S. market.
